With six days of the championship still to play, the fight for salvation remains heated even in light of the results of the 32nd day of Serie A, which saw Genoa, Fiorentina and Cagliari victorious and Parma able to snatch a point against Napoli, while Cremonese and Lecce had to deal with another defeat. Verona and Pisa, knocked out against Torino and Roma respectively, have now all but given up all hope of remaining in the top flight, remaining nine points off the fourth-last spot.

The battle is therefore to avoid finishing third-last: the standings see Genoa and Parma on 36 points, Fiorentina on 35, Cagliari on 33, Cremonese and Lecce on 27.

In case of finishing tied on points, the teams will have to play a salvation playoff. In case three or more clubs arrive tied on points, the avulse ranking criteria (direct clashes, goal difference in direct clashes, total goal difference, goals scored) will be used to determine a ranking order: only the 17th and 18th will play the playoff.
