After days marked by tensions, rumors and very few official statements, Gian Piero Gasperini returned to speak at a press conference to tell his side of the story: “For me, Ranieri’s interview was an incredible surprise, there has never and I mean never been such a tone, unexpected. Never had such tones from him. I took care not to respond and not to create any kind of harm or difficulty to the team, to the fans who come to the stadium to see a level game where we still have chances to play something important. I did not intervene during the week, from today I would like us to talk about soccer in respect of the game.”

Second question dedicated to Wesley’s recovery and possible tensions with the medical staff: “Yes, there are internal confrontations and discussions, as normal. Wesley thinks he can play, he does everything, but the medical side says there are risks, I don’t know if rightly. There are discussions, but from there to talk about something else is a long way. He wants to play tomorrow and maybe the other side is holding back, we’ll see tomorrow, but if the doctor says no I can’t do anything. I’ve never forced, it’s all part of a normal dialectic.”

“If the Champions League changes anything about the future? The club and Ranieri have always been very clear. I thought that with very little we could reach the goal right away and the facts prove it, we are still there, despite all the defections. In the first round we did not have such problems, we were able to compensate. From January on there have been many, but I always thought that with a couple more ideas we would have had even more chances. But these are normal comparisons, with Ranieri (he says it twice, ed.) they were never with aggressive tones. If we can beat a very strong team like Atalanta let’s see what happens. They are a tough obstacle. If we beat them we are allowed to play Champions, then we have others ahead, but this is the parameter I have always created for myself.”
