Daniil Medvedev will be Jannik Sinner’s opponent in the semifinals of the Internazionali d’Italia 2026, after overcoming Martín Landaluce in a comeback with a score of 1-6 6-4 7-5 at the Foro Italico. The match lasted two hours and twenty-three minutes and showed two completely different faces of the Russian: struggling in the first set, then progressively more solid and concrete in the following sets.

The beginning was clearly in favor of the Spaniard. Landaluce immediately took control by taking advantage of Medvedev’s errors, snatching his serve twice in the first games and closing the set 6-1 in just twenty-six minutes. The Russian appeared to be in great difficulty, especially in the exchange from the backhand and with the backhand.

In the second set the match heated up. Medvedev raised the level and got a break, but without being able to consolidate it.Landaluce responded immediately with the counterbreak. After a very fragmented phase, also marked by a rain interruption, the Russian found a new decisive break in the final. Despite a further comeback by the Spaniard, Medvedev closed 6-4 by taking advantage of an error at the key moment.

The third set was the most hard-fought. Medvedev immediately committed a double fault conceding break ball, but then the challenge remained balanced between break and counterbreak, with Landaluce good at saving several times delicate situations. In the final, the Russian had more chances, he got three match points as early as the 10th game without materializing them, but then finally closed on 7-5 in the next game.
