Paola Egonu, Lautaro Martinez’s secret advice pops up

Paola Egonu is enjoying a few weeks of rest after the conclusion of the season with Milan, before returning to work ahead of the women’s European Championships, scheduled from August 21 to September 6 in Azerbaijan. In an interview with DAZN Italy, the Italian opposing player went over the emotions of the last championship, her first as captain of the Milanese club.
“I am coming out of this season with a full heart. The fatigue, the suffering and the fact of slowly growing as a group, finding our identity and sharing those emotions daily with our teammates. I am very proud of them and me,” Egonu recounted, explaining how for the first time she will carry with her especially the value of the relationships built during the year, “I carry so much with me, especially the relationships. These teammates will remain in my heart in a special way.”
The Italian champion also returned to the World Cup she won last season, calling it “the crowning achievement of eight years of work,” marked by difficulties and disappointments before the final victory: “Only those who were part of that cycle know what it means to bring home World Cup gold.”
Talking instead about her experience as captain, Egonu revealed that she was inspired by Lautaro Martínez, whom she met thanks to their shared Interista faith: “When I became captain, I was very inspired by Lautaro. I asked him for advice that remains secret between him and me.”
Space then to the most important relationships built in the volleyball world. On Monica De Gennaro he said, “She is someone I truly love with all of myself. I love her dearly, she is a phenomenal player, a legend.”
