Giro d'Italia, Narvaez triumphs in Fermo. Eulalio still in pink

Jhonatan Narvaez, rider of the UAE Team Emirates XRG, won the eighth stage of the Giro d’Italia, the 156-kilometer Chieti-Fermo, ahead of Andreas Leknessund (Uno-X Mobility) and Martin Tjotta (Uno-X Mobility), who finished 32 and 42 seconds, respectively. Afonso Eulalio of Bahrain Victorious remained with the overall leader’s Pink Jersey.
This is what Narvaez said after the Fermo finish: “We knew it was a stage that suited me. We interpreted it well with my teammates. I think the man of the day is Mikkel Bjerg. He is a guy who works so hard throughout the year and today he was decisive! In the finale, when I was alone, only the legs counted.”
“The headwind made everything extremely tough. We never gave up, racing smartly. It’s a great victory, after my fall in January and after there were only five riders left here in the Giro. There is a good atmosphere in the team and I think we will win stages again next week.”
The Ecuadorian crossed the finish line solo after pulling away from his breakaway companions on the final climb.
