Not just Rome: a new option for Davide Alviti

Varese Basketball considers Davide Alviti a priority for the future. The red and white club has already presented the Alatri winger with a multi-year proposal with the goal of moving forward together.

In the meantime, the new Roma continues to move under the radar ahead of May 28, the date when the transfer of the sports title from Cremona will be formalized. After settling the coach issue, the club will focus on building the Italian core of the team. It will then be up to the new coach to decide whether to bet firmly on Alviti himself, with a past also among Eurobasket, Virtus, Treviso, Trieste and Trento.

Among the possible alternatives for Varese, a profile from Venice also pops up, in case a separation with Stefan Nikolic is reached, who can free himself thanks to the clause in the 1+1 contract with Reyer. In this scenario, the former Virtus, Cantù and Cremona player would become Varese’s Plan B should an agreement not be reached for Alviti’s renewal. That doesn’t displease the Laguna orogranata either.

As for the Roman bench, among the profiles evaluated by the new ownership are those of Jurica Golemac, a 49-year-old Slovenian coach fresh from his experience at Dubai Basketball in the Euroleague – where he proved he can compete at high levels by beating among others Olimpia Milano in the regular season – and Sasha Djordjevic, who has been stationary for two seasons after a parenthesis at the helm of the Chinese national team. The Serbian, who in Italy has already coached Olimpia Milano, Benetton Treviso and Virtus Bologna, is a profile that fascinates because of the weight of the name but presents some unknowns related to the long period of inactivity. It should be noted, moreover, that Reyer Venezia is also reportedly looking with interest at the Serbian coach for after Spahija.
