Sunday’s match against AC Milan will be, barring any sensational second thoughts, Elia Caprile’s last game between the posts at Cagliari. The 2001-born goalkeeper, protagonist of a solid and constantly growing season, has ended up in the sights of important clubs both in Italy and abroad, and it is very recent news that PSG is interested in him. Meanwhile, in the Sardinian capital, a solution to replace him is being studied, not an easy task for sporting director Guido Angelozzi.

The names circulated in the past weeks, from Wladimiro Falcone to Christos Mandas via Dominik Livakovic and young Diego Mascardi, remain in the background but are gradually losing share. Falcone, then, is the most difficult target to reach: Lecce would give him up only in case of relegation, but even if this scenario were to materialize, competition would still be strong, since Torino has asked for information and in the last few days the hypothesis of an assault by Juventus is gaining ground.

In this constantly moving picture, a new name is gaining prominence in the last few hours, that of Lorenzo Montipò. Coming back from five years at Hellas Verona and, after the unlucky 2025-2026 season, nonetheless intent on staying in Serie A, the 1996-class goalkeeper could see in Cagliari an ideal destination to forget a difficult year. Several insiders like his profile for reliability and knowledge of the league, elements that make him an immediate and concrete solution.

At the same time, the island club is also reasoning about deputy and third goalkeeper. One between Sherri and Radunovic, the latter returning from loan at Spezia, is set to leave Sardinia, while Giuseppe Ciocci, a product of the youth sector, is considered the natural candidate for the role of third goalkeeper next season. A choice that confirms the club’s desire to maintain a strong link with its green line, while taking decisive action to ensure stability between the posts.
