Giulio Iozzelli from hitting Zach Copeland to landing in Brindisi
Valtur Brindisi has announced that it has entrusted the role of first-team sports director to Giulio Iozzelli, a professional with proven multiyear experience in the field of sports management and Italian basketball. Born in Pistoia on Aug. 17, 1964, Iozzelli began his career as a sports manager in 1991 with Olimpia Pistoia in the A1 series and remained there until the 1998/99 season, participating in the Korac Cup in the international arena, serving initially as team manager and later as Sports Director.
After a four-season stint in soccer at Pistoiese, Iozzelli returned to basketball in his native Pistoia as head of the technical area and general manager: two promotions, to Legadue in 2007 and to Serie A in 2013, and six seasons in Serie A, with three playoff appearances. After an experience as consultant for sports area projects in Legabasket, with particular attention to the growth and improvement of the youth movement and development of the Next Gen Cup, he became Sports Director of San Giobbe Chiusi for a three-year period 2020-2023 full of satisfactions. A historic promotion to Serie A2 in his first year, where he received the “Fioretti” Award, a recognition dedicated to the best manager in Serie B, and two playoff appearances in the following seasons.
In the summer of 2023 he took on the role of General Manager of Sella Cento, a club whose paths would be reunited last April 2026, when Iozzelli was appointed technical and strategic advisor in order to save the Emilian club’s final season. Change of coach and market graft (former Brindisi, Zach Copeland) useful to win 3-0 the playout series and hit the goal of staying in Serie A2.
In between the two positive experiences in Cento, he served as general manager since March 2025 at Libertas Livorno, in the season finale in which the Tuscan team changed technical guidance and won salvation in the A2 playout, and sports programming last year that saw Libertas starring throughout the regular season and second round of the play-in.
