Roland Garros, the fall of the gods continues: Iga Swiatek collapses, video

Four-time Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek has to say goodbye to her dreams of an all-time poker: in the round of 16 of the Paris Slam, the Polish champion was in fact defeated by Marta Kostyuk, number 15 in the seeding, in a match that ended 7-5, 6-1, with a vertical collapse of Swiatek in a second set characterized by a five-games-to-zero partial with which the Ukrainian closed the match in her favor.
Swiatek, world No. 3, had reached at least the semifinals in the previous four editions and at least the quarters in the last six. Her knockout is closely reminiscent of other outstanding eliminations seen in this edition of Roland Garros, such as that of Elena Rybakina in the second round of the women’s tournament and, in the men’s sphere, of Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic in the third round.
