At Mugello, it was not only the overtaking during the Italian Grand Prix that captured the attention: a decidedly curious episode in fact comes from behind the scenes, far from the race cameras but not from those of the paddock. The protagonists were Marc Marquez and Diogo Moreira, authors of a siparietto that surprised more than one fan and went viral in the aftermath of the weekend at the Scarperia and San Piero circuit.

Everything stems from Saturday’s Sprint, in which Moreira, author of a decisive overtaking move at Turn 4 on the nine-time world champion, finished in tenth position, while Marquez managed to climb up to fifth place on his return from injury. So far, everything in the classic race weekend tracks. But on Sunday, before the long race, Moreira dropped the ace off the track.

The Brazilian in fact showed up in pit lane with a printed photo of the overtake on Marquez, determined to get the image signed by the centaur from Cervera. A gesture that surprised those present, used to far more formal dynamics. “Do you really want me to sign it?” asked Marquez, widening his eyes in amusement. “Sure, I’ll put it in the frame at home,” replied Moreira, without hesitation.

Between general laughter, the rookie recoiled, asking Marquez in which corner he also wanted to be passed in Sunday’s race. After the back-and-forth, the Spanish champion picked up the marker and wrote on the photo, “For the Brazilian rookie: ma vaff…”.

Far from the tension of the race, Marquez stunned everyone with an irony that showed the lighter side of a rider who makes more headlines for what he does on the track than for anything else. And it’s no coincidence that the siparietto took place with the Brazilian: Moreira, in fact, has been training for the past few months with Marc and his brother Alex, and even confessed that he made his MotoGp debut wearing MM93 gloves. A detail that tells better than a thousand words the confidence that binds the two riders.
