Italy’s repechage to the World Cup, another scathing attack on Donald Trump

We are now just days away from the start of the World Cup to be held between the United States, Mexico and Canada, and the situation of the Iranian national team is in the spotlight. Due to the war between Washington and Tehran, Team Melli has had several difficulties and still lacks visas to enter U.S. soil.
Interviewed by the New York Times, Iranian soccer federation president Mehdi Taj harshly attacked Donald Trump, expressing ‘deep disappointment’ that visa paperwork for the team has not yet been completed. According to Taj, the U.S. is doing everything in its power to put a spoke in the wheels of Mehdi Taremi and teammates.
The former Inter Milan center forward recently commented on the situation without mincing words: ‘Politics has always been separate from sports and this principle must be maintained. The World Cup can be a message of peace and friendship for all peoples of the world because this sports tournament has billions of spectators all over the world.”
“Our duty as national team players is to make people happy. There have been bitter events in our country, known to the whole world, which have saddened the Iranian people. Under such circumstances, we try to make people happy with good results and proper performance,” the seasoned bomber ruled.
