Group of cyclists struck by a car; one woman killed

A tragic accident that claimed the life of a 41-year-old woman, Maria Nicoletta Rusu, has deeply shaken the cycling community: it occurred on Sunday in the Palermo area, on a stretch of road connecting Monreale with the province’s inland regions, where a car driven by a 38-year-old man struck a group of cyclists.
According to reports in the *Giornale di Sicilia*, the victim’s partner was taken to the emergency room in a state of shock, while another cyclist was transferred to Palermo’s “Ingrassia” Hospital with a yellow code—his condition was not life-threatening. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene to gather witness statements and other information needed to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The woman’s body was released to her family by order of the judicial authorities. The investigation is being conducted by the Municipal Police and the Carabinieri of Pioppo and Monreale, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office headed by Maurizio de Lucia, who is gathering all the necessary evidence to determine liability.
