Michael Folorunsho’s departure is forcing Cagliari to enter the transfer market in search of a new midfielder to replace Fabio Pisacane. In recent days, the Sardinian club has made an inquiry about Aster Vranckx, a Belgian player owned by Wolfsburg who spent last season on loan at Sassuolo. However, the former Milan player hasn’t fully convinced Cagliari, which has decided to focus its efforts on Michel Aebischer.

The Pisa star is currently competing in the World Cup with Switzerland (the Swiss drew their opener against Qatar and then crushed Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1), but he has been informed by his agent of the Sardinian club’s interest.

Aebischer has already made it clear that he does not want to play in Serie B next season and is therefore open to considering other offers. In addition to Cagliari, Hamburg and Augsburg are also interested.

“By choosing Pisa, I think I made the right choice,” he said at a press conference before the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. “Personally, I’ve taken a step forward; I’m trying to raise my profile not only for Switzerland at the World Cup but also for myself. I’d be happy to play in Germany or even in Italy again. A return to Switzerland isn’t in my plans yet. I don’t want to consider a transfer before the World Cup is over.”
