Tour de France: Evenepoel Wins the Time Trial. A Painless Defeat for Pogacar
Remco Evenepoel won the 16th stage of the Tour de France, a 26.1-kilometer time trial from Evian-les-Bains to Thonon-les-Bains. The Belgian cyclist, an Olympic and world time trial champion, clocked a time of 32’19”, finishing nearly half a minute ahead of the Tour de France leader, Tadej Pogacar, who finished 28 seconds behind.
No big deal for the Slovenian star, who remains the clear leader of the general classification with a lead of over 4 and a half minutes over Evenepoel and is getting closer and closer to his fifth Tour de France victory. Third place went to Mattias Skjelmose, with the surprising young rider Paul Seixas finishing fourth.
Among the Italians, Mattia Cattaneo shone, managing to finish with the sixth-fastest time, one minute and 42 seconds behind Evenepoel. Filippo Ganna lagged behind, finishing just eleventh in a stage that didn’t suit his strengths. For Evenepoel, this is his second consecutive victory at the Tour.
