Camarda’s lightning-fast brace: Amorim’s first Milan side draws in Scotland

A draw in the debut of Ruben Amorim’s new Milan: the Rossoneri came from behind to tie 2-2 in a friendly match in Glasgow against Celtic. The Scots, who are further along in their preseason preparations (their league season begins in early August), took the lead thanks to two defensive errors by the Rossoneri but were caught up in the second half by Camarda’s lightning-fast two-goal performance. The second half was decidedly better for Milan, which will need to assess the condition of new signing Gila in the coming hours after he was forced off with a muscle injury.

Amorim lined up the team in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Kostic as the lone striker. Two major mistakes in the first half proved fatal for Milan: in the 11th minute, Pavlovic misplaced a simple back pass to Torriani, and Duran capitalized to put the Scots ahead. The Rossoneri played timidly and at a slow pace, and in the 28th minute, they conceded a second goal: a disastrous back pass by Ricci allowed Forrest to intercept the ball and make it 0-2.

A different Milan emerged in the second half: Amorim made nearly a complete lineup change, bringing on Chukwueze, Camarda, and new signing Gila, among others. Right at the start of the second half, Camarda earned and converted a penalty kick that brought the game back to life: the Rossoneri’s young star was eager to make his mark and created two more chances before scoring the equalizer—2-2—in the 53rd minute with a fine header off a splendid assist from Chukwueze on the right.

The Milan side played with more flair and pace, though in the 68th minute they had to do without the recently substituted Gila, who went off with a muscle injury, and brought on the very young Vladimirov. Celtic pushed forward in the closing minutes, but the score remained unchanged: Amorim had equalized earlier.
