Zverev is blunt: “I don’t enjoy playing against Jannik Sinner”

Upon arriving in Montreal for the Masters 1000, Alexander Zverev spoke to Knossi once again about his biggest nightmare, Jannik Sinner. The world No. 2 has lost his last 10 matches against the Italian, including four finals, and he can’t deny that he’s facing the toughest opponent of his career.

“I like playing against Alcaraz. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, but matches against him are always incredible and fun. We’ve always played fantastic matches—tough battles—like this year in Australia, where we went five and a half hours. I have fun playing against him. Not so much with Sinner.”

“Early in my career, I enjoyed playing against him. But now I’ve lost our most recent matches; he’s improved his game a lot, he’s very consistent, and he never gives you anything for free. Against Sinner, it always feels like you’re playing from behind.” Zverev reflected on Roland Garros: “I managed to handle my nerves well throughout the tournament. Sinner was eliminated, Djokovic too, and I made it to the final. It was a pretty tough final because I was really, really tense. I knew I wasn’t facing Sinner or Alcaraz, but a player I had to beat. Cobolli is a good player, no doubt about it. He’s an excellent guy, but I had to win.”
