Alexeis Argilagos, who played in Italy for many years, has died. He was 51 years old.

The volleyball world is mourning the passing of Alexeis Argilagos, who died just a few days before his 51st birthday. Many remember him for his long career in Italy, where he played for Caffè Motta Salerno (1998–1999), Petrecca Isernia (2006–2007), Top Team Mantova (2007–2008), Materdominivolley.it Castellana Grotte (2008–2009), Globo Banca Popolare del Frusinate Sora (2009–2010), and Volley Segrate 1978 (2010–2011).

The Volleyball League has released an official statement: “The Board of Directors, all the clubs, and the staff of the Serie A Volleyball League express their deepest condolences on the passing of Alexeis Argilagos, a former Cuban outside hitter who played for six seasons in the Serie A leagues. Our deepest condolences go out to his son Bryan and his entire family.”

Alexeis Argilagos played for the Cuban national team from 1997 to 2000. At the 1998 World Championships in Japan, he won the bronze medal; that same year, he won the World League and the Central American and Caribbean Games. In 1999, he triumphed at the Pan American Games and finished second in the World League.
