Jannik Sinner: His Driving Instructor Speaks Out After His Latest Failed Driving Test

Jannik Sinner recently failed his motorcycle license exam for the fourth time. The Italian tennis star revealed this himself after his Wimbledon triumph, prompting laughter from those present. Confirming the South Tyrolean’s struggles was his driving school instructor, Celine Gazzotti, who explained why the world No. 1 had been rejected yet again.

“Jannik has always tried to prepare for the exam on his own. Before coming to me, he was enrolled at another driving school where they didn’t hold classroom theory lessons,” the instructor explained to Dipiù. “He always took the exam having studied on his own, and in my opinion, that’s why he’s failed four times.”

“The first exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions on the Highway Code. To pass, you’re allowed a maximum of five mistakes. Once he passes that, he’ll have to take the practical maneuvering test, which takes place on a closed circuit at low speed. Riding a motorcycle, he’ll have to navigate a slalom course, a figure-eight course, and avoid an obstacle. He must pass this test before he’s allowed on the road. Then, on the road, he’ll have to ride a powerful Kawasaki street bike with a 650-cc engine.”

“After passing the written test, we’ll prepare for the practical and road test, which are particularly challenging here in Monaco. He’ll take the next exam after taking my lessons; I’m not sure he’ll pass, but by studying with me, he’ll certainly have a better chance. I’d be sorry to see him fail for the fifth time.”
