Jannik Sinner Back to the Doctors; Concerns Mount

With less than ten days to go before the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, concerns are growing about Jannik Sinner. On Tuesday, the world No. 1 was spotted at a well-known physical therapy clinic in Milan. Although it appears to have been a scheduled checkup, fans on social media have expressed their concern.
It’s possible that Jannik Sinner’s visit to the clinic was due to discomfort in his right knee. Last week, the South Tyrolean left J Medical in Turin with a bandage on that very knee, but it shouldn’t be anything particularly worrisome.
The absence of the ATP No. 1 from the Montreal tournament sparked significant controversy, especially among Canadian fans, but it’s clear that a champion of his caliber needs to lighten his workload to avoid injury and be in top form for the U.S. Open.
Daniil Medvedev also came to Sinner’s defense: “The fact that Sinner decided not to play in Montreal is understandable,” the Russian said, as reported by ‘Il Messaggero’. “I can understand it—it’s never easy when you’re winning. Then, when you play so many consecutive tournaments over a long period, there’s very little time left. All the more so if you’re coming off a Wimbledon victory. Jannik now has a major goal: the U.S. Open. So he’s decided to skip the Canada Open to prepare for his main objective, and he’ll do so in the best possible way.”
Alexander Zverev is on the same page; commenting from Montreal, he spoke with understanding about the Italian player’s absence, even though he himself has chosen a different path: “I understand him perfectly. I think that to be in top form, some players need to play more tournaments, while others need to play fewer.”
