Daniele De Rossi’s Genoa suffered a crushing defeat in a preseason friendly against Bournemouth, played behind closed doors in England. The Rossoblù were soundly defeated 10-1, a crushing loss that brought the Grifone’s British tour to an end.

The difference in preparation, as well as De Rossi’s decision to field many young players from the Primavera team, proved decisive in this unusual match, played in four 30-minute halves. The Cherries opened the scoring with Scott, who tapped in after a save by Bijlow. Early in the second half, Genoa equalized through Ellertsson, set up by Colombo: the Icelandic player made it 1-1 with a nice chip shot.

As the minutes ticked by, Bournemouth took control of the match and ran riot: Kluivert with a brace (both goals on penalty kicks) and Truffert sealed the 4-1 score at the end of the second half.

In the final hour of play, De Rossi brought in many players from the Primavera squad: in the third period, the English side extended their lead with goals from Scott, Brooks, and Jebbison (7–1), while the fourth period saw the final three goals scored by Gonzalez and Unes Unal (two goals). The Grifone will return to the field on August 8 for a friendly match against Deportivo La Coruña.
