Ezio Rossi: A Rant About Torino and De Zerbi

Former Torino coach Ezio Rossi posted on Facebook, venting his frustrations about the results of several Serie A and Premier League matches. The longtime defender and fan favorite has set his sights on Torino, as well as Roberto De Zerbi (who got off to a terrible start with Tottenham) and several coaches in Italy’s top division.

“Today I played some padel, then I checked the results—Toro, De Zerbi, Grosso, Giampaolo, and Juric… As someone forced into retirement, they really cheered me up, given my presumption that I know a thing or two about soccer. And I regret never having wanted an agent and having made so many wrong choices, because the only thing I like about soccer is being on the field and coaching,” Rossi concluded.

Ezio Rossi coached Torino from 2003 to 2005 in Serie B. He was fired on Matchday 40, when the Granata were in third place in the standings. Over the years, Rossi has repeatedly criticized Urbano Cairo for his management of the club, which, in his view, has completely lost its soul.

Torino suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Mapei Stadium against Sassuolo on the second matchday of Serie A, leaving them with zero points in the standings following their home loss to Milan in their season opener. Volpato scored the Neroverdi’s opening goal off a backheel assist from Adzic, before Comuzzo temporarily tied the game. Veteran Berardi, who came off the bench in the 72nd minute, decided the outcome of the match by capitalizing on a free kick by Laurienté to seal the final 2-1 score.
