Rome Transfer Market: Gasperini Has Made His Choice—Negotiations for the Forward Are Heating Up, with 35 Million on the Table

With one day left until the summer transfer window closes, Roma’s transfer team is stepping up efforts to give Gian Piero Gasperini the attacking reinforcement he’s been waiting for.

At the top of the list is Stuttgart forward Jamie Leweling: according to reports, the Rome-based club has officially made an offer totaling 35 million euros, including bonuses. They are awaiting a response from the German club. Leweling is also being pursued by several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Everton; however, no offers have been received from them yet. Roma is reported to have offered the German player a contract running through 2031.

The other top candidate for the attack, Luiz Henrique of Zenit, remains on standby for now. Roma could finalize a deal for the Brazilian player, but Gasperini seems more convinced by Leweling, who offers greater tactical versatility than his competitor. The path to signing Gittens also appears to have definitively fizzled out.

Gasperini commented on De Roon’s arrival in midfield: “We’re filling the midfield with an upright player—even if he’s getting on in years—who’s strong and wants to be a key player. He’s a great guy, and he’s also likable on social media. With him and Balerdi, we’ve gained two captains. Talent also needs personality and physicality—and also to balance out all these Argentines… there are starting to be too many of them, and he’s Dutch, like Malen. In that regard, we’re solid.”

“Now, to round things out, we need to shore up the left side with a fullback and a forward. Lulli has helped out a bit; he’s delivered key performances as I’d hoped, but we can’t burden him with too much responsibility.”
