Rome Transfer Market: Top Free Agents; Giallorossi Ready to Make a Move

Roma’s transfer window isn’t closed yet: Sporting Director Tony D’Amico himself admitted that “we’re still missing one player. Free agents will be evaluated later.” Never before has the list of free agents been so enticing, and the Giallorossi don’t want to miss the opportunity to bolster their attack after Jamie Leweling’s last-minute deal fell through.

Among the players currently without a contract is Jadon Sancho, a winger long courted by Roma in the past, who has failed to reestablish himself at Aston Villa and is currently a free agent. But Gasperini might be more interested in the skills of Raheem Sterling, who is looking for redemption after his stint at Arsenal and his negative experience in the Netherlands with Feyenoord.

Among the other names D’Amico might consider are Wilfried Zaha and Anthony Martial—who have played in North America in recent years—as well as former Milan player Ante Rebic and former City player Riyad Mahrez, fresh off his stint in Saudi Arabia. According to *Il Tempo*, Roma could also consider Raphaël Guerreiro, who is currently a free agent after stints with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. The last name on the list is Krépin Diatta, a former Monaco player capable of covering all wing positions, from fullback to winger.

D’Amico, during a press conference in Trigoria, explained why the attacking winger position remains unfilled: “We had the Leweling deal wrapped up. There was a full agreement with the player and with Stuttgart, but then he changed his mind at the last minute. We also had an agreement with Luiz Henrique and Zenit, but in that case there were banking issues with Russia. Summerville? It’s a matter of timing; the window we had to finalize Castro’s deal wasn’t the same as the one for Summerville. We were looking for both types of players, but these things happen.”
