Turin Transfer Market and Cristiano Biraghi’s Future: A New Twist

New developments regarding Cristiano Biraghi’s future. The fullback has decided to continue his career with Torino, accepting a contract extension through 2028 and a significant pay cut.

The left-back from Cernusco sul Naviglio was under contract with President Urbano Cairo’s club until June 30, with a net salary of approximately 1.2 million euros. The former Fiorentina player has chosen to spread this amount over the next 24 months, thereby earning about half of his current salary.

Born in 1992, Biraghi had attracted interest in recent weeks from several Serie B clubs, including Sampdoria, Cremonese, and Avellino, in addition to being targeted by the Greek club Panathinaikos. Biraghi, however, decided to stay with Torino, despite the prospect of limited playing time under coach Ignazio Abate.

The Greek option was particularly ruled out by the player’s own desire not to move abroad. Panathinaikos had tried to convince him with a two-year contract, which would have guaranteed Biraghi more playing time than he would have had with Torino, but the defender declined the offer for personal reasons, partly due to the less-than-stellar memory of the only overseas stint of his career, which he spent with Granada over ten years ago.

Biraghi’s time at Torino has been marked by ups and downs from the very beginning. Having arrived on loan from Fiorentina with an option to buy during the winter transfer window, the player became a permanent Granata player last summer. However, things did not go as planned: the fullback had gradually lost his starting spot even during Baroni’s tenure, and the situation did not improve with D’Aversa’s arrival. So much so that in November 2025, the club had seriously considered selling him as early as the January transfer window.
