Lennart Jasch won by a wide margin on the second stage of the Giro d’Abruzzo Carta Giovani Nazionale, the 143-km Popoli Terme–Caramanico Terme stage, ahead of Dorian Godon (Netcompany Ineos) and Matteo Scalco (XDS Astana Development Team).

“I can’t believe what I’ve done, but I can see my name on TV,” said the stage winner right after the race. “That’s how I realize I’ve really won. It was an incredible day. Mathys Rondel, our team leader, told me to go on the attack, and I followed his lead. At first, I thought we’d still be racing for him, partly because when we were out in front, I wasn’t sure I was the strongest. I waited a long time before attacking. A little over a kilometer from the finish, I thought: it’s now or never. We train for so many hours to experience moments like this. That’s why the emotion is so overwhelming.”

Alessandro Fancellu (MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort) remains the leader in the general classification.
