Top-of-the-table clash in Serie A: Roma and Inter face off at 6 p.m. at the Olimpico; both teams still have perfect records in the league after four games. Gasperini’s men have defeated Fiorentina, Lecce, Atalanta, and Torino, scoring 12 goals and conceding just one; Chivu’s team has beaten Monza, Cagliari, Napoli, and Udinese, scoring a total of 13 goals and conceding 6.

Gasperini must break a curse: he hasn’t managed to beat the Nerazzurri in league play since 2018. He’ll try to do so with a team that’s been following him faithfully, led by a Malen in top form. Balerdi is expected to start in defense alongside Mancini and Hermoso. Molina and Wesley will play on the wings, while in midfield, Cristante will partner with Koné, who is back in the lineup. Up front, Malen will be supported by Dybala and either Soulé or Rodrigo Mora.

Chivu is forced to do without Calhanoglu and Stones, who are injured. Zielinski will direct play, with Barella and Jones flanking him. Akanji anchors the defense, joined by Bisseck and Bastoni, while on the wings, Diouf is favored over Luis Henrique on the right, and Dimarco returns on the left. The attacking duo will consist of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, while Pio Esposito will start on the bench.

Roma vs. Inter: Probable Lineups
ROMA (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Mancini, Balerdi, Hermoso; Molina, Cristante, Koné, Wesley; Soulé, Dybala; Malen. Coach: Gasperini
INTER (3-5-2): J. Martinez; Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni; Diouf, Barella, Zielinski, Jones, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro. Coach: Chivu

“Is Inter my kryptonite? Maybe. There was definitely a time when I was able to get results against Inter. But in recent years, it’s been nothing but losses,” admitted Gasperini. “It could be a tactical issue, even though four coaches have come and gone and the results haven’t changed. I don’t think I’m the only one with this record against Inter. The same thing happened with Juventus during their Scudetto-winning years. What’s certain is that we’re facing a stronger team than the one I used to get results against.”
