Camila Giorgi is a mother: little Magnus Vangelis has been born

Camila Giorgi has become a mother. The former No. 1 Italian tennis player gave birth on Saturday, September 19, welcoming her first child into the world. The baby’s name is Magnus Vangelis; Giorgi, who is from the Marche region, chose the middle name, while the father, Andreas Ignacio Pasutti, decided on the first name. The couple had announced the pregnancy in February, the same month they were married (the wedding took place on the 26th of that month).
The announcement came via a post on Camila Giorgi’s own Instagram Stories. She has been a WTA finalist ten times and aims to return to top-level tennis starting in 2027. “Yes, I’m pregnant,” she said openly. On that same occasion, she also confirmed her relationship with Argentine coach Pasutti, revealing her intention to give birth in Europe and reaffirming her unbroken connection to Italy. On December 30, she’ll celebrate her 35th birthday—her first as a mother. On this new journey, she’ll once again be supported by Andreas, an Argentine tennis player who has since also become her coach.
Despite her pregnancy, Giorgi has never stopped staying in shape. Last July, she went viral on social media with a video posted on Instagram showing her training with her baby bump on a clay court, moving all over the court and hitting both forehands and backhands. The video sparked thousands of reactions from fans. “Actually, I never really left the sport. I never played a farewell match and have always stayed in shape, training on the court and in the gym. So I said… why not? Honestly, I feel that by coming back, I could give much more than I did in the past. I say this without being presumptuous,” she told *La Gazzetta dello Sport*.
Supporting her on this journey is her husband, Andreas Ignacio Pasutti, who, as a tennis coach—primarily for men’s tennis—works with her daily during training sessions. During her pregnancy, her on-court training was also supported by a dedicated medical team. “I’m training now, though of course there will be a fairly short period when I won’t be able to—the recovery after giving birth—but I don’t think I’ll have any trouble getting back in shape since I’m training about three hours a day,” explained the tennis player from Macerata, who has been living in Argentina for over two years.
The last time Giorgi played an official match was on March 23, 2024, when she was defeated by Iga Swiatek in Miami. Since then, what she herself has always described as a break—and not a permanent farewell—could soon turn into a concrete return to the court. “It was never a farewell. I’m just quite private and don’t share much about my life. I took a break from the sport because I wanted to do other things in life,” she explained to *Gazzetta dello Sport*. During her career, she has won four WTA titles, including the prestigious 2021 Canadian Open in Montreal.
