Matteo Cristoni Shines in Portugal: Sixth Place; Friedrichsen Wins

Matteo Cristoni was the top Italian finisher at the 2026 Portugal Open, an HotelPlanner Tour event held at the PGA Aroeira 1 course in Lisbon. The Italian secured an excellent tied-sixth-place finish, finishing at -19 with a total of 265 strokes (67-68-65-65). His performance over the weekend was particularly impressive, with two consecutive rounds of 65 that allowed him to move up several spots. This result is also valuable for the Road to Mallorca standings.

The championship title went to Denmark’s Sebastian Friedrichsen, who claimed his first career title on the HotelPlanner Tour. The 23-year-old finished with an excellent -28 and 256 strokes (64-66-64-62), completing his comeback on the final day with a 62. Behind him was Scotland’s Marc Warren, second at -25, while Julien Sale took third place at -24 after an extraordinary 61 on Sunday. Matthew Southgate and MJ Daffue tied for fourth place at -22.

The 64th edition of the Portugal Open—the first held at PGA Aroeira 1 after years at Royal Óbidos—offered a prize purse of 300,000 euros and marked the final European stop of the season on the road to the Grand Final in Mallorca.
