Milan Transfer Market: Striker on the Run from Arsenal; the Rossoneri Are Also in the Running

It’s a tough time at Arsenal for Viktor Gyokeres, who has lost his starting spot in Mikel Arteta’s lineup. The Spanish coach is relying on Kai Havertz, and the Swedish forward has fallen down the pecking order—as have his stats: so far, he has played just 29 minutes in the Premier League and a total of five matches across all competitions, without scoring a goal.

Rumors of a possible departure in January have intensified in recent days, and some English media outlets have even linked him to Milan ahead of the winter transfer window. It was under current Rossoneri coach Ruben Amorim that Gyokeres enjoyed the most prolific period of his career at Sporting Lisbon, scoring 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Portuguese club.

Milan invested 70 million euros in Gonçalo Ramos this summer, and it’s unlikely they’ll shell out a similar amount this winter for another striker. Next season, however, everything could change if the former PSG striker fails to live up to expectations. Gyokeres is also reportedly being targeted by the Saudi clubs Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad, but his goal is to remain in Europe.

Ramos has scored only one league goal so far—against Venezia—though he put in a more convincing performance in the recent 3-0 win over Lecce, playing a key role in Rabiot’s goal that made it 2-0. Amorim had laid out the plan in recent days: “We need to help him and put him in a position where he can score goals.”
