Tommaso Giulini vs. Sebastiano Esposito: Another Dig

In the final weeks of the summer transfer window, the Sebastiano Esposito situation dominated the headlines at Cagliari. The player had a falling out with the Sardinian club, was fined, and subsequently submitted a medical certificate citing “emotional stress and anxiety.” His agent, Mario Giuffredi, only made the situation worse, and in the end, Cagliari sold Esposito.

Speaking on Radio Anch’io Lo Sport, Tommaso Giulini took the opportunity to take a dig at his former player: “This summer we found ourselves in a somewhat unpleasant situation with one of our players who felt he wasn’t earning enough to play for Cagliari; I’d say we’ve replaced him very well with Daniel Maldini.”

“We’d been following Maldini for several years already,” continued the Cagliari president. “We had a strong partnership with Olbia; we tried to bring him in on loan to Lega Pro before he began his journey in Serie A. He has incredible talent, though he may not have managed to show his best yet. Our challenge will be to help him take that extra step he hasn’t quite managed to take yet.”

Last week, the former Monza player was involved in a car accident in Milan. The player was taken to Fatebenefratelli Hospital and underwent all necessary tests, which fortunately ruled out any serious issues.
