Tragedy in the Mantua area: 35-year-old soccer player dies

The death of Omar Ndoye, a 35-year-old soccer player who played for FC Campitello, a team based in Campitello in the province of Mantua, left everyone speechless. Last Monday, the player was rushed to the intensive care unit at Carlo Poma Hospital in Mantua, where his condition appeared to be extremely critical.

After four days, he was declared brain dead, and the doctors turned off life support. “Goodbye, Omar. The FC Campitello family bids you farewell and carries you in our hearts. Have a safe journey, young man with a smile we’ll never forget,” reads the statement released by the club where Ndoye played.

As reported by the Gazzetta di Mantova, the player’s family gave their consent for organ donation, and under the coordination of the Carlo Poma Hospital Procurement Center, a multi-organ harvest was performed.

Forty-eight hours before he fell ill, Omar Ndoye had taken the field as usual alongside his teammates to play a friendly match: “A special young man,” recall the FC Campitello club officials, “we are devastated. This year, he was set to compete in the 8-a-side amateur soccer league. He was a young man who was always smiling, approachable, and talented on the field. The FC Campitello family will always carry him in their hearts.”
