Holger Rune is on a roll against Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

Holger Rune is raring to go: the Danish tennis player returned to the court in the Davis Cup eleven months after tearing his Achilles tendon, and immediately made a decisive impact for his country by defeating Iliyan Radulov and Grigor Dimitrov. Now, Rune begins his long climb back to the top of the ATP tour: after his extended hiatus, he is currently ranked 185th.

In an interview with Ubitennis, the Danish player revealed his ambition: “When I trained with Carlos Alcaraz in Murcia, I realized I was ready to play. We decided not to compete in the US Open and to start directly with the Davis Cup. Plus, the matches were being played in Denmark, and I was happy to return to competing at home.”

Rune, who has also trained with Jannik Sinner in recent months, shows respect but no fear for the top players: “Alcaraz, Sinner, and Zverev are the most consistent players; no one is like them. But I don’t see them as any more or less vulnerable than they were before my injury.”

The Danish tennis player has clear goals: now he’s setting his sights on Tokyo. “It’s a fantastic tournament, and I can’t wait to get back there. After that, there will be Shanghai, Basel, Paris, and Stockholm. After that, I’ll take stock with my team and work on the areas I need to improve ahead of the Australian Open.”

In a recent interview with the official ATP channel, Rune had this to say about Sinner: “He’s an unstoppable war machine. The way he hits the ball from both sides is insane. I trained with him in June in Monte Carlo, and he makes everything look so easy. He drives the ball, hits powerful shots, generates topspin, and has an extremely precise serve. He’s simply fantastic at everything. Right now, he’s better than anyone else at what he does.”
