“Njie is like Barcola”: Giovanni Galli has no doubts

Former Fiorentina goalkeeper Giovanni Galli had high praise for Alieu Njie, the Swedish forward who transferred from Torino to Fiorentina this summer. The former Torino player has made a strong impression with the Viola, so much so that Galli has drawn some notable comparisons.

“This year, Paratici has built a team that’s a treasure trove of young talent. There’s one player I’m absolutely crazy about, and I believe he could become a star in two years: Njie. I don’t think Barcola and Diomande are that much better than this kid,” Galli told Lady Radio.

“Njie needs to put a few things together, like scoring some goals, but he’s a player who can beat defenders on both the right and left; he has the burst of speed and the stamina. He doesn’t even realize how good he is. I see something extraordinary in him. Some have compared him to Leao, who—to be sure—is a great talent, but has a very different playing style.”

Njie arrived in Florence on August 30 on a loan deal with an obligation to buy for 20 million euros, bonuses included. Having come up through Torino’s youth system, the Swede made his first-team debut in 2024, playing a total of 36 matches and scoring 2 goals in all competitions while wearing the Torino jersey.
