MotoGP: Joan Mir’s absence is extended; the doctor’s comments worry fans

Joan Mir, the Spanish Honda rider who was already forced to miss the Austrian Grand Prix, will not be on the starting grid for the next two races of the season in Japan and Indonesia either. The decision came after a series of tests conducted at the Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona under the supervision of Dr. Angel Charte and his staff.

As the doctor explained to MotoGP’s official channels, Mir has been experiencing symptoms for several months that have progressively affected his performance on the track and that, following the recent San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix, necessitated further specialized tests. The aspect that most concerns fans and industry insiders is that, at least for the moment, a definitive cause for the problems experienced by the 2020 MotoGP World Champion has not yet been identified.

“Mir has been experiencing a series of symptoms that have affected his energy levels and performance for several months, with a recent worsening of the situation,” said Dr. Charte. “The cause has not yet been determined. Given the persistence and severity of the symptoms, he underwent a series of tests at Dexeus University Hospital with the aim of reaching a definitive diagnosis. Due to the symptoms, the doctor recommends complete rest and various treatments for the next 15 days. Consequently, I have advised him against participating in the Japanese and Indonesian Grand Prix. My staff will continue to monitor his condition closely.”

Over the next fifteen days, Mir will therefore observe a period of complete rest accompanied by a rehabilitation program. At the same time, further tests will be conducted to try to pinpoint the exact cause of the health issues that have been affecting his season. HRC has also announced that the name of his replacement will be announced at a later date.

For now, the priority remains solely the health of the Majorcan rider. His forced absence and the fact that a definitive diagnosis has not yet been made are factors that inevitably fuel concern among fans, who are awaiting more reassuring updates on his condition.
