Criticism of Ruben Amorim, a scathing rebuttal: “What’s your problem?”
In recent weeks, many Milan fans have been calling for Massimiliano Allegri to return to the Rossoneri bench, and the defeat of Ramos and his teammates against Benfica in the Europa League has only added fuel to the fire. Not even the 3-0 victory over Lecce in the last league match seems to have calmed the tempers of some Rossoneri supporters.
Journalist Riccardo Trevisani came to the defense of the young Portuguese coach, speaking very clearly on *Cronache di Spogliatoio*: “I want to start a Ruben Amorim Fan Club. He talks about the game, explains his challenges, tries to play soccer—and on top of all that, he’s still undefeated in the league.”
“Unfortunately, he represents the exact opposite of what’s typically favored in Italy: he’s young, has a reputation as a ‘playmaker,’ is a foreigner, and has no friends—which is why he was treated as incompetent from the very start. If you listen to him speak, though, he clearly explains what he wants from his Milan team, and he’s been very smart to change the formation to adapt to the roster he has available.”
“He’s faced ridiculous criticism over the past few weeks because Milan lost to Benfica—not Ludogorets, mind you—and yet they’re undefeated in the league,” Trevisani pointed out. “Only four out of twenty teams are undefeated: the two Rome-based teams, Juventus, and Milan. Ruben Amorim is someone who’s trying to build a team. Take it easy—it takes time, especially for those who are working at it.”
“Because if you’re not working on it, you just switch to a 4-4-2 and off you go. If you’re working on it, it takes time to build a team. Milan, however, remains undefeated and is even trying to play soccer, which didn’t seem possible to me. So what do you want from Amorim? He’s committed, he works hard, he communicates, he explains… What problems do you have with Amorim?” the journalist remarked.
After the win against Lecce, Gerry Cardinale also spoke out in support of the coach: “Those were among the best 90 minutes we’ve seen. I want to congratulate Amorim and our players for continuing to fight in these early matches, before the international break.”
“We mustn’t forget that a new coach, with a new style of play and new players, needs time to find the right chemistry. I also appreciate our fans for the support they’ve shown during this transition phase, as we work to get things going and bring AC Milan back to its winning tradition,” concluded the Rossoneri owner.
