Viterbese in shock: Assistant Coach Fabrizio Galasso died in his sleep

Viterbo is in shock over the death of Fabrizio Galasso, the 49-year-old assistant coach of Vigor Campagnano Gialloblù. Galasso died overnight after falling ill at the B&B where he was staying, located between Via Saffi and Via Cavour in the historic center of Viterbo.

The alarm was reportedly raised by his colleague and friend with whom he shared the residence: coach Andrea Bussone. Despite the prompt intervention of medical personnel, there was nothing they could do: the emergency responders could only confirm his death.

Among the hypotheses being considered is that he suffered a sudden illness while sleeping, reports ViterboToday. In addition to the Carabinieri, Galasso’s wife, Viterbese president Piero Camilli, and part of the staff and team were also at the scene.

The statement from Viterbese, a Serie D club, is heartfelt: “The club expresses deep sorrow and immense shock. This terrible and sudden news deeply shocks our entire Gialloblù family and leaves us speechless. At this difficult time, every word seems inadequate. Farewell, Fabrizio.”

Everyone—from President Camilli to the club, from the coaching staff to the team—unites “with affection and deep emotion around Fabrizio’s family and loved ones, sharing in the grief over this immense tragedy that has struck us.” In addition to his wife, Galasso leaves behind a 9-year-old son.
