Juventus Transfer Market: Contract Extension on the Horizon for a Rising Star Revived Under Spalletti

Contract renewal talks are underway between Douglas Luiz and Juventus. The Brazilian midfielder’s resurgence has not gone unnoticed, and in the coming months, it could be rewarded with a new contract. This is recognition for the performance shown by the player—who came up through Vasco da Gama’s youth system—at the start of this season, following a decidedly difficult first year with the Bianconeri.

Much of the credit goes to the work done over the summer by Luciano Spalletti, who was the first to firmly believe in the Brazilian playmaker’s resurgence. It’s a gamble that, at least for now, is paying off. If the early signs are any indication, Juventus may have finally found the playmaker they’ve been searching for—one who’s been missing from the midfield since the days of Miralem Pjanic.

Douglas Luiz joined Juventus in the summer of 2024 at the behest of Cristiano Giuntoli, who had identified him as the ideal playmaker for Thiago Motta’s team. The Bianconeri had beaten out competition from major clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United, making a significant investment and fueling high expectations among the fans. The deal brought Douglas Luiz to Turin for a total transfer fee of 50 million euros: 28 million in cash and another 22 million in player exchanges, with 8 million allocated for Enzo Barrenechea and 14 million for Samuel Iling-Junior.
