Kimi Antonelli is following in Jannik Sinner’s footsteps: Is controversy on the horizon?

Will Andrea Kimi Antonelli follow in Jannik Sinner’s footsteps? The two Italian sports stars could soon become neighbors. Prince Albert of Monaco revealed in an interview with *Corriere della Sera* that the 20-year-old Mercedes driver, the current leader of the Formula 1 World Championship, is considering a move.
“Kimi Antonelli is also thinking about moving to Monaco,” the Prince said. “What draws them here? Of course, there’s the financial aspect, but when I talk to them, I realize that much of our country’s appeal has to do with the quality of life, the climate, and, above all, safety.”
The rising star from Bologna could thus move from San Marino, where he currently lives, to Monte Carlo, where he scored an incredible victory last June in F1. Antonelli would join a large community of Italian athletes: in addition to Sinner, the tennis players include Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Musetti, while among the racers are two legends, Max Biaggi and Loris Capirossi.
And who knows if Antonelli, too, will be targeted by criticism from certain journalists and industry insiders—just like Sinner, whom many still haven’t forgiven for living in the Principality. The latest to criticize him a few months ago was Giovanna Botteri: “It really bugs me that Sinner lives in Monte Carlo…”. Joining her was Luca Sommi, a journalist for *Il Fatto Quotidiano*, who replied: “I wonder, you earn 70 million euros a year—so why don’t you do what Alcaraz did and keep your tax residence in Spain? Why do you have to go to Monte Carlo?” Then Botteri again: “What I always ask myself is, what does someone do with 70 million a year? You buy something—a car, two cars.”
