Italy’s Under-21 team defeated their Polish counterparts 6-2, qualifying for the final phase of the European Championship to be held next year in Albania and Serbia, but the real news making the rounds online is something else entirely.

The match will, in fact, be remembered above all for Cher Ndour’s spectacular goal. In the 54th minute, with the Azzurrini already leading 2-0, Poland went all out to prevent Italy from overtaking them in the standings. Following a corner kick, Bartesaghi headed the ball away; Kowalczyk recovered it at the edge of the box only to be met by the Fiorentina midfielder, who didn’t fall for the feint and regained possession.

Ndour, who had already scored the second goal, then looked up and spotted goalkeeper Lubik positioned in the attacking third: a crisp right-footed shot from 80 meters that found the back of the net after a very long arc.

Cher Ndour, the star of the Azzurrini’s triumphant evening, remained in Florence despite interest from English clubs. However, there is still talk of Liverpool and Aston Villa tracking the 2004-born player, who is valued at around 15 million euros.
