The president of the Piedmont Region tries to take comfort after Jannik Sinner’s refusal: “The Finals are more uncertain”

The official announcement of Jannik Sinner’s early season end will inevitably have consequences for the Nitto ATP Finals as well, scheduled for the sixth consecutive year at the Inalpi Arena in Turin from November 15 to 22. The bond between the South Tyrolean champion and the city has grown stronger over the years, drawing in fans and enthusiasts, and since last September, Sinner has also been an honorary citizen of Turin.
The president of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, and the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo, also reacted to the news.
“Sinner’s absence from the upcoming Nitto ATP Finals is certainly a disappointment,” said Cirio. “Over the years, Jannik has won the hearts of Piedmont and its people, thanks to his extraordinary victories, but also because of the bond of affection and closeness he has built with our community,”
The governor then shifted his focus to the tournament: “Sinner’s absence opens up the competition anew, with the world’s greatest international champions and our own Cobolli set to make the Finals even more unpredictable—and, for that very reason, all the more thrilling. We all send Sinner our warmest regards, along with our best wishes for a speedy recovery.”
Mayor Lo Russo also expressed his regret: “We are saddened to learn that Jannik Sinner will not be able to be in Turin for the upcoming edition of the ATP Finals,” commented Stefano Lo Russo. On behalf of the city, we send him our best wishes for a speedy recovery. Jannik has won the hearts of the people of Turin through his successes and the sporting values he embodies: commitment, respect, and loyalty—qualities deeply rooted in our city. Sinner is a champion who speaks above all through his actions, showing great respect for both his opponents and the public. In this sense, I feel he is very much in tune with Turin, a city that values substance, daily hard work, and the ability to achieve significant results. Sinner embodies these values very well.”
