The AIA (Italian Referees’ Association) has officially announced the referees for the upcoming Serie A matchday. Matteo Marcenaro, from the Genoa section, will officiate the Cagliari-Juventus match. The assistant referees will be Rossi and Lo Cicero, while Doveri will serve as the fourth official. Giacomo Camplone, from the Pescara chapter, will be in charge of VAR, assisted by Maggioni as the VAR assistant.

The Genoese referee has a positive track record with Juventus. Marcenaro has officiated three matches involving the Bianconeri, resulting in two wins and one draw. The record is decidedly less favorable for Cagliari, which has never earned three points in the six matches refereed by Marcenaro: the Rossoblù have suffered four losses and two draws.

But while the track record with Marcenaro favors Juve, it’s impossible not to recall what happened in the Juve-Salernitana match on September 11, 2022. With the score tied at 2-2, the Bianconeri had taken the lead thanks to a header by Milik, but Bonucci was in the line of the shot and appeared to be in an offside position. Marcenaro, therefore, after consulting with the VAR, disallowed the goal.
