Pedro has officially retired from professional soccer. The decision had been in the works since last June, when his contract with Lazio naturally expired. At 39, the Spaniard brings an extraordinary career to a close—one built around stints with Barcelona, Chelsea, Roma, and the national team—with a list of achievements that ranks him among the most decorated players in the history of Spanish soccer.

The announcement came via an emotional video posted on social media, filmed at the place that more than any other symbolizes his career: Camp Nou. It was right here that Pedro experienced the most important years of his soccer career, becoming a key player on Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona alongside Lionel Messi and a generation that defined an era.

The video traces his entire career, from his early days in Tenerife to the trophies he won with Barça, symbolically brought onto the Camp Nou pitch. Then came the Spanish national team, including the World Cup final, and footage of his stints at Chelsea and Lazio, where he concluded his playing career.

What made the farewell even more special were the numerous messages posted in the comments by former teammates, friends, and key figures in his career: from Xavi to Keita Baldé, including Luis Alberto, Zappacosta, and Castellanos.
