Novak Djokovic weighed in after Jannik Sinner’s announcement that he will take a break until 2027 to address the knee injury that has sidelined him since the Wimbledon final. The South Tyrolean tennis player aims to return in time for the Australian Open, but caution is key: the goal is to avoid a disastrous relapse.

The Serbian champion, fresh off his victory in Beijing, had this to say about the situation: “I haven’t spoken with Jannik since he got injured. I heard the news two days ago and will reach out to him to see how he’s doing. I’m sure he and his team are making prudent decisions.” Nole expressed regret over his absence: “He’s been the best player in the world and a dominant force in recent years, alongside Carlos Alcaraz. The tennis world misses him, but at the same time, he has to think long-term. I think it’s a wise choice; it’s important to take care of yourself to extend your career, because that way you have more opportunities to achieve all your goals.”

Djokovic speaks from experience: “Having suffered major injuries in my career, I know how difficult it is to return to certain levels. When you’re off the tour for so long, you face challenges that go beyond the norm, especially mentally. Physically, when you’re ready, you’re ready, but then there’s the mental aspect: you’re on the court and you ask yourself, ‘Am I really fully recovered? Can I make this move?’”

His great rival Carlos Alcaraz wanted to show his support for Sinner with a message on social media: “Man! You’ll come back stronger, keep your head up, wishing you a speedy recovery.” A touching gesture from the Spaniard.
