Matteo Darmian will join Bologna. The Rossoblù have put an end to the uncertainty and decided to sign the 36-year-old defender, who has been a free agent since last June following the end of his long stint with Inter.

Darmian, who has been training with the Emilia-based team for weeks, will immediately be available to coach Raffaele Palladino and could already be called up for Sunday’s match against Lecce, where he will start on the bench. It was the Bologna coach himself who gave the go-ahead for his signing.

The club had requested additional medical exams to assess the player’s physical condition, but according to Sky, everything has been resolved. Darmian, who also played in a friendly against Ascoli, will earn approximately one million euros per year.

An important utility player on defense, Darmian had also been linked to Torino, his former team, last summer. Former Torino player Francesco Pratali told Toro News that he regretted Darmian’s failure to join the club, having played alongside him during his time at Torino: “He would have been a great addition. I shared the locker room with Matteo for a year. He was 19 years old and already mature back then. He has above-average character. He would have been a great addition for Torino, especially in terms of charisma and locker-room leadership.”
