Threats and insults directed at drivers and mechanics; Colapinto appeals to his fans: “You’re ruining me this way”

Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto’s fan base is among the most passionate in the sport, but the Argentine driver’s supporters often go too far before, during, and after Grand Prix races. After the crash in Baku, Lando Norris was bombarded with insults on social media and even received death threats. The fans made their voices heard again after the Singapore race, this time targeting the mechanics of Alpine, the South American driver’s team.
This was too much for Colapinto, who decided to step in once and for all to put a stop to this downward spiral that is also putting his own future at risk. “There’s something very important I’ve needed to talk to you about for a while now. I should have talked to all of you about this sooner, but it’s something we need to change, something we need to improve. I know you think you’re defending me, but you’re actually doing the opposite. You’re not helping me or my future, and I really want you to understand that this is what we all need to change together.”
“We need to try to improve as a club. And to help me achieve better results, to help me realize my dreams, reach my goals, and climb the standings, I need your help to put a stop to all of this. We have to put an end to this situation.”
“I want you to keep supporting the team; I want you to keep supporting me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for understanding,” concluded Colapinto, who hopes the situation will change as soon as possible. The driver’s statement was also applauded by Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore.
