Inter: Updates on Both the Champions League and the League: Cristian Chivu’s Choices

Inter is preparing to shake things up ahead of its upcoming matches. Following the come-from-behind victory against Bologna, Cristian Chivu is exploring new strategies to face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Wednesday, October 21, and Fiorentina in the league on Sunday, October 25. The main change involves the goalkeeper position, where Ivan Provedel is set to make his debut in a Nerazzurri jersey, with the prospect of playing in both matches. This is reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport
The change in goal was reportedly planned internally and does not necessarily represent a rebuke for Josep Martinez. The Spaniard, who had a few poor performances in the Champions League, managed to redeem himself in the league, but now he may make way for the newcomer.
For Provedel, this would mark his return to the field after more than seven months of absence. The former Lazio goalkeeper has not played since March 4, when he suffered an injury while playing for the Biancocelesti. Chivu’s decision is therefore also linked to the need to evaluate the new goalkeeper at a crucial stage of the season.
There could also be changes in midfield. Hakan Calhanoglu and Andy Diouf, who spent much of the away game in Bologna on the bench, are candidates to start against Shakhtar.
On the left wing, however, the competition between Carlos Augusto and Federico Dimarco remains open. The Brazilian is coming off a decisive performance at the Dall’Ara, where he scored a goal and provided an assist, and is aiming to earn a starting spot. The possibility of seeing them play together isn’t out of the question either, with Carlos Augusto dropping back into defense should Chivu decide to give Alessandro Bastoni a rest.
The main competition in the attack concerns Marcus Thuram’s partner. With Lautaro Martinez out, the Nerazzurri coach must choose between Pio Esposito and Ange-Yoan Bonny.
