Maurizio Cremonini, 70, a coach with the Italian Basketball Federation and a leading figure in the world of mini-basketball, passed away during the night between Sunday, October 18, and Monday, October 19, after suffering a heart attack. A native of Brescia, he had dedicated 45 years of his life to teaching basketball to children and training new generations of coaches.

A national mini-basketball instructor since 1981, Cremonini had worked alongside the Italian Basketball Federation for more than thirty years, focusing primarily on the training and continuing education of instructors. His commitment extended beyond Italy’s borders, thanks to his participation in various international educational projects and his collaboration with FIBA, the governing body of basketball worldwide.

The news of his death was made public by the FIP itself, which expressed its condolences in a statement on behalf of President Giovanni Petrucci, the Federal Council, and the entire staff of the Federation. In recalling his contribution as a trainer and teacher, the Federation wished to emphasize above all his human qualities: “The simplicity with which he addressed complex issues, the gentle humor with which he approached life, and the humility—yet also the confidence—with which he shared his expertise as a teacher, without ever imposing himself—we will miss these qualities, but they will guide us into the future.”

Maurizio Cremonini is survived by his wife, Rosi, and their two sons, Andrea and Marco. Marco works as a videographer for the Italian national basketball teams.
