A new turning point is on the horizon for Joao Mario

Joao Mario’s loan to Fiorentina may not be renewed, with the possibility of an early termination as early as the January transfer window. The Portuguese fullback, who joined Fiorentina from Juventus over the summer, has not found the playing time he was looking for, and his future may once again lie away from Florence. Juventus is, in fact, considering the possibility of finding a new destination for the player.

The decision to join Fiorentina was strongly desired by Joao Mario himself, who had preferred the Tuscan club’s offer over other opportunities, including one from Bologna, where he had enjoyed a strong second half of the season. What convinced him most was the prospect of getting playing time on the right wing, especially given the uncertainties surrounding Alex Jimenez’s integration and Dodo’s possible departure.

The situation, however, has taken a different turn. The Brazilian’s failed move to Olympiacos has shifted the balance of the roster, and after regaining peak physical condition, Dodo has once again become a key player in Paolo Vanoli’s lineup, further reducing the Portuguese player’s chances of seeing action.

Juventus and Fiorentina could therefore reach an agreement to end the loan six months early, allowing Joao Mario to seek more playing time elsewhere. No option is being ruled out, with potential opportunities both in the Italian league and abroad. The priority remains allowing the player to return to regular playing time.

However, financial issues also remain on the table. The deal agreed upon during the summer transfer window called for a loan fee of 1.8 million euros and a buyout clause set at 9.5 million, to be paid over three fiscal years. The Viola club had also assumed the full cost of the Portuguese player’s salary, amounting to 1.5 million euros.
