November and December will be decisive months for two midfielders who are currently seeing limited playing time under Torino coach Ignazio Abate: Cesare Casadei and Gvidas Gineitis.

The 22-year-old Granata player is widely regarded as a talent, but due to a number of factors, he has yet to establish himself—and Abate’s words at the press conference before the match against Parma served as a wake-up call: “Casadei needs to act less like a kid and more like an adult; he needs to make that mental shift.”.

The former Chelsea player was sidelined by injury for about a month at the start of the season, and was then penalized by the tactical shift implemented by the Torino coach, which pushed him to the bottom of the pecking order. Mandragora’s injury also denied him a chance to shine, and so far he has played just 87 minutes in the league.

It’s a different story for Gineitis, who started the first four games of the season before ending up on the bench following the formation change. The Lithuanian was on the transfer list for a long time this summer and came very close to a move to Celtic in Scotland. With the switch to a 3-5-2 formation, his playing time has decreased, and he’ll have to make the most of the next two months to convince the coach to rely on him again.

A transfer during the winter window remains a possibility: in January, the door to Celtic could open again. Salzburg had also shown interest in him.
