ATP Finals: Who Will Succeed Jannik Sinner? Carlos Alcaraz Sends a Very Clear Message

Carlos Alcaraz has sent a very strong message ahead of the ATP Finals. The Murcia native has secured a spot in the final of the Vienna tournament by defeating Daniil Medvedev, one of the players who has already qualified for the Masters tournament scheduled for mid-November in Turin. Saturday’s victory confirms the world No. 3’s excellent form, and he is now a strong contender to follow in Jannik Sinner’s footsteps as the winner of the Finals.
Alcaraz defeated Medvedev 6-4, 7-6(2), snapping the Russian’s seven-match winning streak and demonstrating great composure at the decisive moments of the match. “It’s a fantastic feeling to beat a player like Daniil on an indoor court, especially after the run he was on. He was brimming with confidence, and being able to beat him is special,” Alcaraz explained to ATP reporters after the match.
The Murcia native then highlighted the work he’s done since returning from injury: “I’m working hard on every aspect of my game to be in the best possible shape for the Finals. I’m happy, though, to have another chance to play in a tournament final first.” These words sound like a clear warning to all the rivals who will cross his path from here on out.
This will be Alcaraz’s fourth appearance at the ATP Finals. In his three previous appearances, his best result came last year, when he reached the final but was defeated by Jannik Sinner at the end of a memorable season for the Italian champion. Now the goal is to take that final step and win, for the first time, the trophy that brings together the season’s top eight players.
Meanwhile, the field of participants has already taken shape. In addition to Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, and Ben Shelton have also already secured their spots for the big event. The final four spots, however, will be determined through the Race: among the players still in contention is Flavio Cobolli, whose status remains uncertain due to a very recent injury sustained in Vienna during the derby against Matteo Berrettini.
